"And moving up a gear, you can expect even tighter integration of sound and visuals as Impulse returns with a line up that includes Drip, one of the Philippines most important underground electronic acts.
Loosely dubbed trip hop, mainly because of the torchy, powerful vocals of lead singer Beng Calma, the Manila four-piece has been hailed as one of the top live acts on the Philippines’s alternative music scene.
Unusually for an electronica act, it’s on the live circuit rather than in the studio that they’ve made their name, with fiery, adrenaline-fuelled performances based around Beng’s emotive showmanship. But what makes them such an ideal choice for Heineken presents Impulse is their commitment to pushing boundaries within the music industry."
Heineken presents Impulse Date: Friday 22nd August Time: 8.30pm Venue: Heritage Mansion, 18-26 Jalan Kamunting, KL Admission: Free
Note: Far Side of the World is also on iTunes courtesy of CDBaby as well as physical CD distribution. It took us only ONLY 3.5 WEEKS to get on iTunes working with WaTunes - so special thanks to these content aggregators for making digital distrbution possible for everyone!
New Aural Toy. If you're the kind to digitally experiment with music, Drip's 2nd album is for you. It is the 1st Creative Commons-licensed full length album in the Pinas. In commonspeak, the enchanced CD contains shared files of song elements that you can mix & remix on your own. Too much tech speak? Then just plain listen. The album is best played loud, so you can pretend they're there with you. Truth to be told, they're better experienced live. If you've missed their Cebu debut(s) at Bite Night, Formo, The Outpost, & USC-TC, you'll have to settle for this CD."
Identity Theft, DRIP's 2nd album and the FIRST full-length album released under a CREATIVE COMMONS license is now on AMAZON.COM! Spread the Word! Special thanks to Kevin Rivers of for making it possible to upload the song on Monday and it being out in Amazon by FRIDAY! Amazing! Less than a working week!
"...I hear a hit from 1967 (Motown) or 1987 (Mod revival) in this great remix of dripmanila. And wail, it’s about time ol’ Doghouse Riley got an ED pick. ; )"
"...Could have ended with my review after 23 seconds, but still wanted to listen to the rest of it. If there is a true follower of Phil Spector, it could be for sure Doghouse Riley fo ma thankin. There seem to be two sort of producers: DR and those who can´t reach him! ;-) Love always the humour and profesionality that you combine in your tracks!..."
"...more wickedness from the pound! :-)
ok - finally I have a couple of extra minutes to write a few more words:
My first reaction was just this really big grin, because if this music can’t put a happy smile on your face, you’re having a really bad day. Of course my previous comment about wickedness is based on the chasm between the emotion of the lyrics and the emotion of this remix And your note about PS illustrating the chasm that can exist between the music and the man (he’s not the only one either!) serves as an almost eerie parallel to your remix. And that ends up triggering kind of deep questions below the smile. A little like an old Woody Allen movie - lots of laughs while watching and then the deep thoughts sneak up on you. If that’s not wicked, what is?
On an a technical level, the period/genre homage is just striking - the attention to detail from the harmonies to the horns, from the piano to the drums. So professional, yet so playful. How do you do it?..."
"...Yes, it sure as hell feels like it’s 1967! Great job on orchestration and creating that vintage vibe. Love the horns…and that baritone sax! Mega Woof!..."
"...get out the white go go boots, go down town and yell at the H & R Block lady for the audit letter you got in the mail- everything is so taxing- but nice little Ronettey re mix here- Mick Ronson has nothing on you..."
"...Whooo YEAH I’m lovin’ this!! The Funk Brothers vibe fo sho! You just need a reverby tambourine and some electric sitar to make the picture complete. Damn, did this put a big stupid grin on my face :D ..."
"Nice…VERY nice! I like everything about this! I swear I keep waiting for Smokey to jump in somewhere on harmony or something!!! And the illest thing of all is how it sounds retro & contemporary at the same time. Too Sexy!!! ..."
"...Is this your Larry Levine tribute? If so I’m sure he’d be dancing in the aisles to this one!.."
"...What the hell just happend…. Is this for real?:D Do you do seminars to? Bad ass DR..."
"...Sugar pie honey bunch…( me singing )…..yeah this is hot….!!!!! Motown, 60s and new school…..Very well done DHR. ..."
"...Oh yea, that’s gro-o-o-vy… Course I’m too young to really remember the sixties (and no it wasn’t the drugs) but had I been listening to music back then I would have liked music like this, because I do now.

Let's talk to DRIP. (yeeeey) DRIP is: Beng Calma-Alcazaren on Vocals, Malek Lopez on live keyboards, sound design & programming, Caliph8 on Turntables & FX and Ian "Morse" Magbanua on beats, samples & programming
Of course, engineer par excellence Mark Laccay will join us, too. Unbeknownst to many, (even to him!) Mark won the Rock Ed "Best Supporting-Lead Vocals" award. (sangkanaman nakarinig nonnnnn?!) The only award of its kind. He earned this by ably "support-screaming" for Radioactive Sago Project while sitting in the sound booth during a WILD WILD gig somewhere in the South.... because Lourd lost most of his voice right before the gig. (isipin mo yon....)
And to a group called Creative Commons. (yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey) Let's get to know what these people on-the-edge REALLY do. More importantly, what they stand for. We're sure they don't call themselves such for nothing.
We'll ask them what they mean when they say, "you can share your intellectual property..."
Ah hah!
A nifty conversation with people who know juuuuuuust how to push the envelope.
Ikaw? What is your stance on Intellectual Property Rights? Have you ever experienced being plagiarized, in any form?
Tell us. Tell us.
Here (by posting) ... or during the show this Sunday by texting NU (space) MSG to 29107..."

Thanks to Atty. Jimmy Soriano and Atty. Berne Guerrero for attending the IDENTITY THEFT launch!
"...Berne also mentioned several artists who have used CC licenses in some of their works such as:
Maria Elisa Sempio Diy. She is now involved in the formation of a CC Asia band;
Eugene Marfil of True Faith has also released a couple of original compositions with CC licenses;
DRIP launched their first CC-licensed album, Identity Theft, last March 15 and it is also considered as the first in the Philippines. Philippine Commons is currently in contact with upcoming bands who have also signified their intent to release their songs with CC licenses. "We are interested in holding CC salons with two notable music venues in the near future. There are also a lot of Filipinos who have been providing CC-licensed content, through their individual blogs, or submission to public repositories, such as Flickr. We still have to look into those who would pursue legal sharing of audio-visual works..."
"...Finally, if you’re reading this on Saturday, March 15, 2008, then clear your schedule for tonight, because unless you are attending your own wedding or scheduled to give birth or are in a coma—or some other equally unpostponable situation—then you should be going to Magnet High Street at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig around 8 PM, for the launch of the electronic band Drip’s second album, Identity Theft. (And if you’re not reading this on Saturday, March 15, 2008, that just means that I blew another deadline, and am kicking myself right now. But you should still go and get a copy of the album.) I’ve been listening to an advanced reviewer’s copy for a few days now—at home, on the MRT, even on a pedicab trundling down Agham Road—and it’s an amazing piece of work, cool and sexy and angry and seductive and all sorts of other fun stuff. Those who liked the first album—Far Side of the World—will LOVE this one, and it’s entirely possible that even if the first one didn’t grab you, this one will. It’s better..."
